The Dimapur Congress Committee (DCC), led by its president, has raised serious concerns over the ₹19 crore renovation of Dimapur Town Hall, calling for an immediate investigation into the project’s financial transparency.

In response to growing public dissatisfaction, the DCC filed a Right to Information (RTI) request on February 19, 2025, with the Development Authority of Nagaland. The RTI revealed that the contract for the renovation was awarded to M/s Chabou & Co. However, an on-site inspection conducted by the DCC on March 17 found that while the work had been completed, its quality and scale did not reflect the significant funds allocated for the project.

At a press conference, the president stated that the public had turned to the DCC because they were unable to approach the government directly. He stressed that filing the RTI was essential, as the public lacked a platform to voice their grievances. "Corruption is rampant in various departments, particularly in project execution, where officials prioritize financial gain over quality work. The DCC will thoroughly investigate every department to expose any irregularities," he asserted.

Adding to the concerns, the General Secretary revealed that their RTI request had also sought the audit report of the project, but it was missing from the provided documents. This raised further suspicions about financial mismanagement.

DCC’s Key Demands:

1. Conduct a comprehensive audit of financial transactions and work progress.

2. Establish a special investigation committee that includes DCC officials.

3. Investigate the procurement process for potential overpricing.

4. Ensure all official documents are complete and accessible.

5. Provide a clear explanation for any delays in project completion.

The issue has sparked widespread public debate, with growing demands for accountability from the government. The DCC has vowed to continue its efforts to uncover corruption in public projects and push for transparency in governance.
