Chümoukedima, March 25, 2025 – In a breakthrough, police have arrested a suspect involved in a hit-and-run case reported on March 14, 2025, at Piphema. The accused, identified as Devinder Singh (23), S/O Daleep Singh, from Ramban, Jammu & Kashmir, had been evading arrest but was successfully apprehended on March 22, 2025, from Lahorijan, Assam.
The police had been tracking the suspect since the incident, and with coordinated efforts, he was finally taken into custody along with the offending vehicle. The accused is now under police custody, and further investigation is ongoing.
On 25.03.2025 at around 0110 hrs, upon receiving information from reliable source that an accident had occurred at 5th Mile NH 29 near stone crusher; the Police duty party rushed to the place of occurrence and found one Mahindra Bolero driven by unknown person had hit a stationary Thar vehicle from behind causing rear-end collision; force pushing the Thar vehicle to the right side of the road leading to chain of collision whereby the Thar vehicle knocked a Scooty due to the initial impact by the offending Bolero vehicle. On spot verification, it was learned that one person (male) suspected to be driver of Thar vehicle lying on the spot with serious injuries. The injured person was evacuated to CIHSR Hospital Chumoukedima by the good Samaritans, but succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital. The deceased was later identified as Lt. N. William Koso, 44 yrs, the driver cum vehicle owner of the Thar vehicle. In the meantime, one Maruti Omni van coming from Dimapur side, stopped at the spotdue to road being obstructed by the collisions; in the process another Motor Bke came and hit the stationary Omni Van from behind, resulting the bike rider sustaining grievous injury and presently undergoing Medical treatment at a Hospital in Dimapur. All the involved vehicles and two wheelers have been brought and kept at Traffic Control Chumoukedima for further enquiry/investigation. After conducting Post Mortem and observing necessary formalities, the dead body has been handed over to the family member for the final rites. In this connection a case has been registered at Diphupar PS and investigation on going.
