Chumukedima, April 5, 2025 : A devastating fire broke out on April 5 in Ward 3 of Chümoukedima, reducing six houses to ashes. One of the victims reported a loss of property worth approximately ₹30 lakhs, including ₹5 lakhs in cash. While all properties were completely destroyed, fortunately, no human casualties were reported.

Victims from the affected homes suspect that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit. However, the fire department has stated that preliminary findings do not support this claim. An investigation is currently underway to determine the actual cause of the blaze.
