Dimapur, April 9, 2026 | A press conference was organized today by the Society for the Presentation of Sumi Language to present concerns related to the Sumi language, with particular focus on the latest translation of the Sumi Bible. Addressing the media, representatives strongly opposed the new translation, alleging serious inaccuracies, including the addition and omission of certain portions of Scripture. They emphasized that God’s Word must be translated faithfully and without distortion. The Sumi community, they said, stands united in expressing deep concern and disappointment over the revised version. The Sumi Bible, first translated in 1928, has undergone more than ten revisions;however, such a level of dissatisfaction has never been witnessed before. They further stated that on July 12, 2024, Sumi Hoho along with other Sumi bodies, in the presence of the Sumi Bible Translation Committee, had agreed that the Bible would be revised and republished. Despite this, they alleged that the same errors remain and no proper corrections have been made. During the press conference, the organization also appealed to the Bible Society of India to immediately recall all copies of the latest translation and halt any further publication. They warned that failure to comply with these demands would leave them with no option but to take legal action.Reaffirming their stand, the organization declared that the new translation will not be accepted or recognized as official unless it is thoroughly corrected.
