The BJP Mahila Morcha Nagaland will organise bike and scooty rallies across districts on April 15, followed by Mahila Sammelans on April 16, as part of a statewide campaign to raise awareness on the 33 percent women’s reservation under the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam (Women’s Reservation Act). The riders will only be females.
Announcing the programme at a press conference in Dimapur on Monday, Mahila Morcha state president Tsachola Rothong said the initiative aims to take the message of women’s political empowerment to the grassroots and encourage greater participation in governance.
She described the legislation as a historic step that provides for 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies, including seats reserved for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. According to Rothong, the upcoming rallies and Sammelans are intended to build public awareness and mobilise support around the reform.
“These programmes are aimed at taking this message of Nari Shakti directly to the people, strengthening participation at the grassroots, and building a strong collective momentum across Nagaland,” she said, adding that the programmes will be conducted in multiple districts to maximise outreach.
Rothong also highlighted that the Mahila Morcha will focus on identifying and nurturing potential women leaders through these engagements, while strengthening organisational efforts at the grassroots level.
She further stated that the campaign reflects a broader push to promote women’s participation in decision-making processes and legislative governance, particularly in a state where women have traditionally played key roles in community life.
The two-day programme is expected to see participation from party workers, women leaders, and supporters across Nagaland, with an emphasis on public outreach and mobilisation.
The Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, enacted in 2023, mandates one-third reservation for women in Parliament and State Assemblies.
