The Chakhroma Youth Organisation (CYO) today issued a stern reminder that its banishment order against three people from Maova Village following a land dispute violence remains firm, warning that the patience of the local youth is running thin.
Addressing a press conference here at the CPO Hall in Chümoukedima on Wednesday, CYO leadership stated that while they have consistently tried to maintain brotherhood and peaceful co-existence, their tolerance is being tested by what they termed an "arrogant attitude" from the opposing side.
Expressing deep shock over the lingering fallout of the February 13 clashes, the CYO emphasized that they have deliberately refrained from taking the law into their own hands. However, they stated that they will initiate their own course of action following a prolonged window given for a peaceful settlement.
"If they want to live with the peace loving Nagas, it all depends on them," a CYO representative stated, asserting that the organization is merely claiming its rightful place in its traditional domain.
The youth body sent a strong warning to the Maova village authorities, stating that if the village fails to expel the three individuals, it would be interpreted as the village administration’s complicity in the matter.
"If the three perpetrators aren't expelled from the village, then it might mean the Maova village is involved in this matter," the CYO stated, adding that the wider village population might suffer consequences due to the actions of these three individuals.
Acknowledging growing frustration among the Naga public, the CYO pointed out that both the Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO) and the CYO have intentionally avoided turning the land dispute into a communal tussle.
However, they cautioned that they would "not remain a mute spectator" if the deadlock continues, noting that they can feel the pulse of their youth, which is risking going out of control.
The CYO also directed an appeal to the state authorities, urging the Nagaland government to step in with urgency. "We expect the government of the day to look into this matter seriously. If it keeps on delaying, it is only benefiting the people who have created this issue in the first place," the organization stated.
