MADFA emerged as champions of the Women’s Volleyball Tournament organised by 78 Battalion CRPF in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Dimapur, under the SPANDAN – Sports for Peace and Development initiative.

The four-day tournament, held from September 7 to 10 at B/78 Battalion, NIDC, Dimapur, brought together 18 women’s volleyball teams from different parts of Nagaland. The tournament aimed to promote women’s participation in sports, youth engagement, peace, unity and inclusiveness, while providing women athletes an opportunity to showcase their sporting abilities.

In the final match on Thursday, MADFA defeated VOLARIS to claim the championship, with VOLARIS finishing in second place. Titanias secured third position, while Unity Club finished fourth.

The closing ceremony was attended by Dimapur Commissioner of Police Aotula T. Imchen, IPS, as chief guest, along with 78 Battalion CRPF Commandant Deven Bhosle, FCI General Manager Angshuman Chakrabarti, SAI Dimapur Deputy Director Harender, CRPF officers, coaches, participating teams and sports enthusiasts.

Addressing the gathering, Imchen highlighted the important role of women in nation-building and the development of society. She noted that women are making significant contributions across fields including education, science, sports, public service, security and administration.

She also emphasised the role of sports in developing confidence, discipline, leadership, teamwork and determination among women and young girls. Imchen appreciated the initiative of the CRPF and SAI in creating opportunities for young women to pursue their sporting aspirations.

The tournament featured keenly contested matches and spirited performances, reflecting the growing interest and potential for women’s sports in Nagaland.

The CRPF said the initiative also sought to use sports as a means of bringing people together and promoting friendship, harmony, unity and mutual understanding across social, cultural and regional differences.

Commandant Deven Bhosle expressed hope that the tournament would inspire more young women and girls to take up sports and pursue their aspirations with confidence.

He also invited the participating teams, sports fraternity and people of Nagaland to take part in the State-Level Half Marathon, “Nagaland’s Biggest Run”, scheduled for October 5 at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima. The event will be organised by 78 Battalion CRPF in collaboration with SAI and the Government of Nagaland.

The CRPF stated that the volleyball tournament was part of its continued efforts under SPANDAN to promote sports, women’s empowerment, youth engagement, peace and inclusive development while strengthening community ties through sporting activities.
