Kamal Jain, Treasurer of the BJP Nagaland, announced that he would fund the education of five underprivileged students of Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, from the next academic session. The school will select the students and provide their names to him.

Jain, who was the Chief Guest, made the announcement at the school's Freshers' Meet-cum-Pranab Jyoti Award 2026, held at the Pranab Jubilee Auditorium on Wednesday.

Addressing the students, Jain gave five points of advice: dream big, respect parents and teachers, do not fear failure, use mobile phones and technology wisely, and build good character.

Referring to the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, he said students could contribute from the present by studying sincerely, helping others and respecting everyone.

Speaking as BJP State Treasurer, he said supporting young people is important and offered guidance and support to students who may need it.

At the event, the school conferred the Pranab Jyoti Award on its H.S.S.L.C 2026 toppers.

Shreya Debnath (Commerce, 96.00%) received Rs 15,000 as the 1st rank holder. Pratik Das Gupta (Commerce, 90.00%), the 10th rank holder, received Rs 10,000. Sanchita Debnath was recognised as the MIL-Bengali subject topper with 97.00% and received Rs 3,000. Dobong N Yimchunger (Science, 86.20%) and Farhena Akhter (Arts, 85.20%) were honoured for the highest percentage secured from the institution and received Rs 5,000 each. All awardees also received a memento and a certificate.

In his welcome address, Principal Manoj Bhattacharjee said the occasion was meant to recognise dedication, perseverance and discipline rather than only to distribute awards.

He credited examination success to consistent effort, teachers' guidance, parents' encouragement and students' determination.

Explaining the award's name, he said "Jyoti" signifies the light of knowledge, wisdom and inspiration. He urged awardees to treat the recognition as a beginning, remain humble in success and stay committed to lifelong learning.

He told Higher Secondary students that marks are important but do not define a person's worth, and that character, integrity, compassion and creativity matter equally.

Swami Chinmayanandaji Maharaj, Secretary of the school and in-charge of Bharat Sevashram Sangha, Dimapur, Nagaland and Karbi-Anglong district, Assam, gave the words of blessing.

He urged students to be serious about their syllabus and studies. Noting that the institution has senior and sincere faculty members, he said that if students take proper guidance from their teachers, he could assure them that they would achieve their goals in life.

Speaking as a guest, Adv. Kamalakanta Paul, President of Bengali Samaj, paid tribute to the late Manik Bhattacharjee, whose vision and efforts, along with those of other social workers, led to the school's establishment in 1984.

He thanked the principal for his leadership and told the freshers that the freshers' social promotes friendship, unity and mutual understanding. He said school life extends beyond textbooks and examinations to discipline, respect, responsibility and character.
