The Khiamniungan Students' Union (KSU) has called off its agitation and ended the closure of the Executive Engineer's Office, PWD (R&B), Noklak, following assurances from the department on the prioritisation and timely completion of key road projects in the district.

In a statment today by its Media Cell, the KSU said it held a joint meeting with the PWD (R&B) and the concerned contractor to discuss the foreclosure of the Chendang Saddle–Noklak–Pangsha Road (Phase-II) and the Noklak–Thonoknyu Road via Sanglao.

The Union expressed displeasure over land compensation having been cited as a reason for closing the projects during the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) session. In response, the Engineer-in-Chief clarified that projects funded under the NLCPR scheme carry no provision for land compensation. The KSU said the Khiamniungan people have never claimed or demanded land compensation for these projects.

The contractor, M/s Naagaamii Infra Tech Pvt. Ltd., apologised to the KSU for citing land compensation issues while seeking an extension of time for the projects. The KSU representatives present accepted the apology.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of road connectivity to Thonoknyu, an administrative headquarters. The department informed the Union that, under its SASCI 2026–27 priorities, a proposal for improving the Peshu–Thonoknyu road had been submitted to the State Government. It also assured the Union that necessary action would be initiated with the State Government to address the concerns raised by the KSU and the people of Noklak District.

The KSU placed four demands before the department:

Completion of the 31-km Chendang Saddle–Noklak–Pangsha Road (Phase-II), sanctioned at ₹164.80 crore, within 12 months.

Upgradation and completion of the Noklak–Thonoknyu Road via Sanglao to Major District Road (MDR) standard, with a 5.5-metre intermediate-lane carriageway, within 24 months.

Expediting the ongoing construction of the Noklak–Pathso Road.

Completion of the 88-km Lang River–Taingan (Myanmar) Road, including its extension to Wui Village via Nokhu and Choklangan, within the stipulated timeframe and in accordance with the Revised DPR dated November 19, 2024.

The department assured the Union that these projects would be given top priority and that necessary measures would be taken to ensure timely execution.

In view of these assurances, the KSU called off the agitation. It said it expects the department to honour its commitments and complete the projects within the stipulated timelines without further delay.
