The Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) will hold the 1st Dimapur Urban Inter-Colony Open Games and Sports Meet 2026, branded "Urban Challenge", at the DDSC Stadium on November 20 and 21, it said at a press conference here on Friday.
The meet will bring together the 97 colonies under 23 wards that make up the federation, with representation from the various tribal communities in Dimapur's urban area. It is built around traditional indigenous games.
The organisers said the event aims to foster unity and understanding among member colonies and their councils, and to give them a common platform for interaction, fellowship and healthy competition. It also seeks to encourage younger people to take part in traditional Naga games and so keep cultural heritage alive.
Six games will be played: tug of war (men and women), bamboo stilt race (men), nail hitting (women), spear target hitting (men), wood cutting with handsaw (men) and rooster fight (men).
The inaugural programme is proposed for November 20. DUCCF has sought the consent of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to attend as Special Guest. Advisors Tovihoto Ayemi (Tribal Affairs and Election) and Moatoshi Longkumer (Labour, Employment and Skill Development, Excise) will host the event. The organisers said the proposed sequence and ceremonial details remain subject to confirmation.
DUCCF, registered in 2012, is headed by President Zasivikho Zakiesato. The federation said it believes sports and games can bring people together, strengthen ties among member colonies and preserve the cultural heritage of the Naga people.
