The North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) organized a book release function at its headquarters in Dimapur, on Friday evening, releasing two landmark works focused on preserving and highlighting Naga indigenous knowledge and heritage.

The event marked the launch of "Nagas: The Knowledge Practitioners", co-authored by Dr. Alok Kumar Kanungo and Dr. Alino Sumi and published by Routledge, alongside "Documentation on Textile Narratives of Naga Shawls", authored by Padma Shri Sentila T. Yanger.

Welcoming the gathering, NEZCC Director Alobo Naga stressed the imperative of documentation, noting that culture must be actively recorded and passed on rather than treated as a passive inheritance.

He highlighted NEZCC's ongoing mission to support researchers, artists, and practitioners in safeguarding indigenous traditions and vanishing folk practices from being lost to time.

Attending as the Chief Guest, the Governor of Nagaland and NEZCC Chairman, Nand Kishore Yadav, formally released the publications.

Addressing the audience, Governor Yadav emphasized that traditional knowledge is not mere folklore, but a body of practical science developed over generations through observation, adaptation, and experience.

Describing the Naga shawl as a "visual language" carrying social identity and history, he noted that preserving heritage requires preserving the living knowledge behind cultural objects, not just the physical items themselves.

Governor Yadav further cautioned against "cultural amnesia" in an age of technological advancement, calling on educational institutions and young scholars to build a dialogue between modern science and indigenous wisdom. He advocated for urgent, village-level documentation across Nagaland before traditional knowledge disappears with its remaining elders.
